Los Angeles is a music city. No matter the time of the year, you will always find good shows. I knew that Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue were in town for Grammy season and fortunately they were doing shows in LA. I was lucky enough to document the night in which my friend DJ Bennett Schmid opened for them at El Rey Theatre. The opening set reached a peak in which I proudly instagramed “that’s my buddy”. The crowd was going nuts one heavy hitter after the other and the guy standing behind me even googled this “fantastic dj”!
The audience was all heated when 10:15 hit the mark, the band took position and Trombone Shorty raising his trombone on he stage started doing his New Orleans magic. Shouts all over, hands up, looks of admiration, and him with his trombone conducting the band, driving them to amazing solo highlights. Trombone Shorty is THE man, the trombone man of our times, but it takes a great band to take an artist to reach a fantastic performance and the Orleans Avenue are incredible skill for this task so much respect to them.
Highlight: Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue performing Michael Jackson’s “Don’t stop till you get enough”.
