A Tribe Call Red + World Hood, 04’11’14

Global bass is growing and Los Angeles gets to be exposed to many of its influences.  Last week the Mint was packed with an eager audience vibing to the sounds of the night.  World Hood and A Tribe Called Red put on a stellar show bringing a heavy sense of tropical beats making a very warm night.   I heard about World Hood a couple of years ago and it was a huge surprise to see them remixing live traditional cumbias replacing the instrumentals with electronic beats in a very respectful manner keeping the original sound.   A Tribe Called Red are an all First Nation (Upper/Lower Cayuga and Nipissing Anishnabe) DJ crew from Ottawa Canada remixing traditional Pow Wow music with contemporary club sounds.  Their flavors were very heavy and the crowd was going wild attentively following their beats.  The night was fantastic and I sure hope both crews get to be in LA during summer time with their traditional strong flavors in contemporary times.
